The pistachio nut is considered to be the cornerstone of a nutritious diet. As Science Daily (May 20, 2010) mentions, pistachio nuts, eaten as part of a healthy diet, can increase the levels of antioxidants in the blood of adults with high cholesterol, lowering lipids and lipoproteins, which are a risk factor for heart disease. Moreover, a diet that incorporates a daily dose of pistachios may help reduce the risk of lung cancer.
